» What are the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
IBS is called a syndrome because it is accompanied with a group of symptoms. While these symptoms may vary per person, most experience several of them at once. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is primarily known for the abdominal pain connected to a change in bowel pattern. The primary symptoms of IBS are:
· cramping in the abdomen
· bloating
· gas
· loose and frequent bowel movements
· diarrhea
· constipation
Most people have either diarrhea or constipation; however, some do experience both. There are also a few other possible symptoms that are somewhat less common:
· mucus in the stool
· swollen abdomen
· the sensation that you have not completed the bowel movement
