Treating the pain and other symptoms of fibromyalgia is a life long journey. Each person must experiment with the various options available to discover those that will help them lead a more normal life. Each main area of treatment includes an enormous scope of approaches, which can be narrowed down for best benefit through time and experimentation. Some of the treatments available include:
· Diet-Limiting caffeine, sugar, and processed foods are all recommended.
· Exercise-Although the last thing a person with the symptoms of fibromyalgia may feel like doing is getting exercise, it is one of the best things to do. It helps loosen muscles, release endorphins and increases deep sleep.
· Medicine-Anti-depressants have proven to be very helpful for relieving the pain of fibromyalgia. Sleeping medications, muscle relaxants, and pain relievers are common in some successful treatment of fibromyalgia.
· Nutritional Supplements-Supplements that support immune system function and other normal functions are recommended.
· Physical Rehabilitation-This may include massage, relaxation techniques, biofeedback are included in this category of treatment.
· Life management/Stress Reduction-Simplifying life and changing living habits might be the most difficult treatment approaches in our fast-paced society. However, some of the biggest dividends may be found by making some life changes.
Long term follow-up on patients shows that it is chronic, but that its severity will most probably fluctuate. Fibromyalgia is a challenging condition to manage, but it is not progressive or terminal. One key to management of the condition given by help professionals is to be persistent and to maintain a positive attitude. This will lessen the emotional stress fibromyalgia itself may have and enable the person to continue optimally managing symptoms.
