There are a number of things that can trigger depression. A combination of occurrences can also be what brings on depression in some people. Here are some common factors that are involved with depression:
· Family History: The same things that can determine your height and eye color can also play a role in developing depression. Genetics play a large part in many people succumbing to depression. The disease can run in families for generations.
· Stress or Trauma: Traumatic experiences or big areas of stress in life such as the death of a loved one,
divorce, or even financial difficulties can trigger depression. Changes in daily life such as graduation from high school or college, moving, a new job, and having a baby can also impact the start of depression.
· Negative Attitude: People who have a pessimistic attitude or those who have low self esteem are at very high risk of becoming depressed.
· Physical Conditions: Fining out you have a major illness or disease such as cancer, HIV, or heart disease can trigger depression because of the physical trauma they cause the body as well as the stress that comes with dealing with them. Depression can also make illnesses or diseases worse. The damage depression does to the nervous system can actually make pain harder to tolerate. Depression can in some cases be brought on by medicines prescribed to treat certain diseases.
· Other Disorders: Sometimes other psychological problems like eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and even alcohol or drug abuse can often occur or bring on depression.
· Combination: This is the most typical cause for depression. For many people it isn’t just one thing or occurrence that causes depression, it can be a combination of triggers. For example a family history along and the loss of someone close to you. This is the most typical cause for depression.
