Although there is presently no cure for autism, both intervention and education approaches are helpful in decreasing some of the challenges connected with the disorder. Intervention can help to decrease the amount of disruptive behaviors while education can teach the child self-help skills that may permit increased independence. It is important to understand that the treatment plan must be tailored to the child’s individual needs as there is no single treatment effective for autistic children. Treatment should arise out of a thorough evaluation of the strengths and weakness of each individual child.
