Helmets – No matter what the age of the rider, all ATV riders should wear a helmet while operating an ATV. Although ATVs are safer than three-wheelers, they are still inherently dangerous. Modern helmets are very comfortable and stylish and are a must have no matter skill level the rider may be at.

Goggles – Although sunglasses are a considerable alternative, goggles are far better at protecting the rider’s eyes from flying debris while riding an ATV. It is highly advisable that goggles be worn around a helmet by any person operating an ATV.

Gloves – Gloves not only provide superior grip, but also aid in comfort to the rider. After all, it doesn’t matter how well the ATV performs on the trail if the rider falls off of the vehicle.

Chest protector – Although it is not absolutely necessary to purchase a chest protector, this safety device is recommended if very advanced trails will be ridden through trees were a wreck could result in the chance of the rider being impaled by an obstacle.

Pants – It is very advisable that an ATV rider wear pants rather than shorts due to the likelihood that trail obstacles could injure the rider while moving along. Also, several parts of the ATV become very hot (e.g. the exhaust pipe) which could severely burn the rider if skin were to come into direct contact. Wearing pants is highly advisable.
