All Terrain Vehicles or ATVs are made by several manufacturers. The most commonly recognized are Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki. These manufacturers each produce several different models of ATVs. The broadest categories of ATVs are differentiated as either Utility or Sport ATVs. A Utility ATV is what is commonly found on a farm or used by a hunter. They typically come with features such as four wheel drive, automatic transmission, electric start and racks for hauling and tying down to. A sport ATV usually has a higher engine RPM level, suspension made for jumping and other features geared toward higher speeds and more recreational type activities.

ATVs are commonly called Quads because of their four tires. The predecessor to the ATV was the three-wheeler which is no longer produced due to its vast safety hazards. When deciding on a specific ATV to purchase you should consider what activities you desire to use your ATV in, what your price range is and what feature you would like included.
