The size of fit will vary slightly between manufacturers. It is always best to try on a helmet first to see if it fits before purchasing it. A professional salesman can assist you with measuring your head, but if one is not available, the best way to measure your head is to find some string of any type and wrap it around your head. Take this measurement to a yard stick to see how many inches around your head is. This will give you a guide when determining the correct size of helmet to purchase. Be sure to measure above your ears and about and inch above your eyebrows.
It is important to have a correct fitting helmet for comfort and safety. A loose helmet may become an obstruction to your vision. The rough trails could cause a loose fitting helmet to move around on your head resulting in the temporary blocking of your vision. If the helmet is too tight it will result in discomfort. If the helmet is uncomfortable, a rider may desire to ride without a helmet. Doing so could result in serious injury or even death.
