» Suggestions for Introducing Your Child to Dirt Biking
It is important to take time to orientate your child to the use of his/her dirt bike. Safety should always come first, as you will see in many of the suggestions. Here are some things to emphasize with your child:
- Always wear your helmet! It is essential to your child’s personal safety.
- Always check to make sure your bike is safe. You should always check your dirt bike’s brakes, steering and suspension.
- Always wear all safety equipment.
- Supervise your children well; be there with your child as he is learning to ride and give him guidelines. Teach him how to handle his bike well and teach him to respect his bike.
- Remind him that it is a dangerous sport and how to take precautions. Your child needs to understand that safety matters not just for him but it is also very important for the protection of the other children racing nearby.
- Make sure that the track that you use is well-maintained, as this can significantly cut out much of the potential for accidents.
- Encourage your child to watch others race to see how it is done. Your child can pick up on many skills by watching others.
- When racing, a very helpful idea is to encourage your child to walk the track before racing it. This gives valuable perception into the racing line and the jumps of the race course.
