Even if you like your dining room chairs, slip covers are taking over the decorating world as a contemporary way to update and soften your dining room. Slip covers are designed to fit most dining room chairs that are at least 42 inches high. If your chair is less than that height, consider the “short” styles that expose some of the chair legs.

You also may consider making slip covers, which can be simple for those with some sewing experience. Patterns are available, although you may have to make some adjustments for the size of your chair.
