DV cameras use CCD (charged-coupled device) chips that have what is called progressive scan to capture still images. Progressive scan works by capturing all the lines in an image one line after another. This is the most efficiently way to capture a still image, although the resolution won’t be as good. Besides progressive scanning, you can use still image transfer to the image on the screen. One other way to capture still images is to place each image on some kind of storage device like a CompactFlash, SmartMedia, or memory stick.
