Zoom and Macro Mode Lenses

As you know every camera comes with a zoom lens. And many of them allow you to change the focal length right away. Focal length comes by means of magnification. For example, a 3X zoom lens can enlarge or can reduce the image by up to three times its original size.

Zoom lenses come in two types: optical and digital. Here are some facts about these two types:

• Optical: An optical zoom lens can change the amount of viewing of a scene that the camera collects. Each pixel has unique data so the photo is sharp and clear.
• Digital: This type of lens uses sleight of hand by taking a part of the image and saves it as is. This happens by adding new pixels to the image using a technique known as interpolation.

A macro mode digital camera acts like any other camera until you switch into macro mode. Being in this mode allows you to get real close to objects. The only problem with this technique is the background is phased out. But if you aren’t looking for the perfect picture and just need to shoot close-ups, this type of camera would do you well.
