After all your battery will not last forever. You will need to charge it eventually. The only problem is there are many types of charges on the market. You have to know what to look for. Some battery chargers are cheap while others are expensive. Prices could range from $8 to $50. Here are things to look out for when purchasing a battery charger:
• NiMH: Many battery chargers will charge NiMH batteries. But not all will. You will need to make sure the charger you seek can handle these types of batteries.
• Cell size: Most digital cameras use AA batteries. There are some digital cameras that use AAA batteries. If you want to charge these batteries, you will need to get a charger that works with these batteries.
• Cell count: It would be a great idea to charge more than one cell at a time, especially if your digital camera takes two or more batteries. This way you can charge all of them once.
• Charge time: Another important point regarding battery chargers is the time involved in charging the batteries. The fastest chargers can charge a battery within two hours.
• AC adapters: Battery chargers normally get power from an AC outlet, with a cord plugged into the unit. While there is some that have the cord built-in so the cord plugs right into the outlet. Plug in chargers are the best types because they offer built-in AC to DC converters, so this way the batteries get charged. The other type that has a cord that attaches to the base unit and then plugs into the outlet is big and bulky.
• Controlling the charge: The worst thing to have is a charger that doesn’t stop charging the battery and damages it. So you need a charger that has a control function on it to stop the charge. Actually, a smart charger is one to get because this has a microprocessor built-in to it that monitors the charge. When the battery is fully charged, the charger turns off.
• LEDs: When you purchase a battery charger, try to get one with an LED on it. This way you can keep track of when the charger is on and when it is charging the batteries. This way you can actually monitor the charger.
