If you think about it, tripods are necessary, especially if you have trouble holding the camera still or do a lot of shooting outdoors. This makes for a blurry picture. Before you go off and buy a tripod, you better take a look at the following tips that may save you a return trip to the store:

• Stability: The best tripod is one that is stable and trustworthy. You want one that is made of good construction and is stable. If you settle for anything less, you may find your tripod falling down after you anchor your camera to it. When looking for a tripod, don’t settle for plastic ones. They are too lightweight and cheap.
• Weight: Also keep in mind weight matters. Know what your camera weighs. If you buy a tripod that can’t handle the weight of your camera, it will collapse. So look for one that can hold your camera comfortably, without wavering.
• Looseness: You also have to be sure your tripod does not come loose on you. When you look at tripods, extend the legs all the way out and adjust them to the height you need for yourself. Check to see if it wobbles any. Check also for looseness of any type. Don’t forget that over time and use, certain parts wear, so make sure that the tripod is sturdy.
• Head: What kind of head is on it? Is the head the type you are looking for? Is it what you want? There are two types of heads: pan and tilt and ball and socket. The pan and tilt moves up and down and left and right. The ball and socket will move in any direction. What you want will depend on what you are looking for and the price you are willing to spend.
