• Zoom: Choosing a digital video camera is just like choosing a digital camera. The one thing to look for is the zoom feature. DV cameras come with digital and optical zooms.
• CCD (charge-coupled device): This is the actual device that collects the image. There may be one for each color: red, blue, and green. You get much richer and better quality pictures this way.
• Viewfinder: This is another area in the camera that is important. The viewfinder usually folds out to the side for easy viewing. Good viewfinders are in color and are adjustable for people with sight problems.
• Shooting type: Your digital video camera should have the ability to shoot objects at night. Most cameras have this feature already. If it doesn’t, and you do a lot of shooting outside at night, you will need one with it.
• Accessories mounting area: In order to increase your camera’s efficiency, it would be good to have a camera that includes an accessory mounting spot. If you look for this, it’ll look like one of those external flash attachments.
• Battery indicator: Most digital video cameras come with a battery indicator so you may not need to worry about this. But it would still be good to make sure the one you want has one. You wouldn’t want to be in the middle of nowhere, ready to shoot your scene and your camera dies on you.
• Connections: What way do you want to connect your camera to your PC? Most PCs have at least four USB ports, and this is the most common way to attach it. Make sure your digital video camera supports USB 2.0, since this is the newest version and is the fastest one.
