If you are travelling to the land of Nordic delights and you want to get to know people whilst on a break then first of all, most do speak English but it would be greatly appreciated by locals if you can familiarise yourself with the Danish culture that is very striking.
It is classed as a very popular subject and the Danes will be very happy if you show an interest in anything from Hans Christian Andersen to anything that may be enjoyed by visitors and local alike. It gives you a good opportunity getting to know people by visiting all local attractions when the Nordic residents may live.
If you are meeting Dutch acquaintances for the first time then it is considered rude to be too friendly and therefore it is best to find common ground and talk about something that won’t cause any rifts on the first meeting. It is an easy mistake to make but be certain what you can and cannot talk about and you will be fine.
Top Fact: As the Danish are very reserved then it is best to avoid any controversial topics or that involve family or personal issues because due to their natural wishes for privacy, they will talk about it if they really want to. Another factor to remember is that many people are flattered by compliments but in terms of the Danes, they are not bothered about receiving such comments and do consider them to be inappropriate.
