The Dover mall is a fine idea for tax-free shopping, and one may enjoy this venue, which has more than a hundred retail businesses. Dover Air Force base is also close by, which houses a military museum that boasts a collection of memorabilia that includes decommissioned aircraft.

The beaches are just a short drive to the city’s east, and the charming and lively Baltimore and DC are as close as a weekend getaway. One might also enjoy a race at Dover Downs, whether harness, stock racing, or the NASCAR variety. Altogether, Dover is a great place to live, boasting several very nice neighborhoods and a selection of real estate options for the itinerant resident.

Delaware is known to foster one of the country’s most business-friendly environments, for political as well as economic reasons. Thus, many of the large companies have major operations in the state. The northern part of Delaware is home to a great many banking, biotech and information technology corporations. In Dover itself, government agencies share the burden for the local economic growth with such manufacturers as Playtex Apparel, Inc.

Between November and April, Dover Downs hosts live harness racing. Gambling is legal, so this fosters some revenue for the city as well. During other parts of the year, the Downs hosts NASCAR racing too.

Many national credit card companies such as MBNA and Citigroup are headquartered in Delaware as well, due in large part to the efforts of Governor du Pont IV and the Financial Center Development Act.

As for the seasonal weather in Delaware, its Atlantic location moderates some of the weather it gets. Once all is settled and ready to go, one may head out with people from the neighboring states to take advantage of the lack of sales tax in Delaware.
