With a population of just over 32,000, Dover may be the smallest capital city in one of the smallest states... but it is a thriving place of lively culture and intriguing history. Dover had a lengthy past, evidenced by its collection of historical homes, landmarks and museums. Dover Green, designed by William Penn in the late 17th century, remains largely unchanged from Colonial times. Guided tours of the city are available, but if one should wish to see where the past and the present have set up shop together, Loockerman Street is a good place to start.
Delaware also boasts no sales tax, so it is not uncommon to see a great many other state license plates in the mall parking lots and on the road.
A great many state agencies make Dover their headquarters, which makes up for the otherwise moderate size of the town. As Delaware’s capital, Dover is home to the governor as well as many state senators although the Office of the Attorney general is in Wilmington.
As for cost of living, the average monthly rent in Dover is $521 and the average homeowner expenses are around $1034 per month. Things other than home expenses are included in cost of living, such as cost of fuel and food and healthcare of course.
