State motto: “It’s good to be first”. Delaware was the first state to ratify the US Constitution.
Delaware has the fewest counties of any state in the Union: three.
At sixty feet above sea level, it has the lowest average altitude of any other state.
Delaware ranks 49th in the nation with a total land area of 1,955 square miles. Only Rhode Island is smaller.
Delaware also has the distinction of being home to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, which is the longest twin span suspension bridge in the world.
Highest number of PhDs per capita in the United States.
Delaware is the only state without a national park.
Eldridge Reeves Johnson (1867-1945) was born in Wilmington and grew up in Dover. He was inventor of the phonograph.
The Delaware Museum of Natural History houses one of this hemisphere's largest shell collections.
University Gallery on the campus of the University of Delaware has one of the largest amber collections in the world.
