Wilmington: Wilmington is the center of a lot of different types of attractions and activities, including various museums, art galleries, the performing arts, the zoo, and many historical sites and landmarks. Wilmington is known as a financial district, and it is true that many businesses call this city home and have operations here. But Wilmington is also a place of great historical value, culture and art.

As for places to stay, Wilmington offers everything from fine hotels to ‘just for the night’ accommodations.

Dover: As the capital of the First State, Dover offers a lot in terms of attractions, destinations, and historical venues. Of particular interest in the city is Dover Downs, where harness racing goes on through the winter months and NASCAR racing takes up the slack on the off season.

Places of note in Dover include the Green. Designed by William Penn, it is little changed today from the central place that it was in colonial times. It was the site of the Golden Fleece Tavern, meeting place of the leading statesmen in the days before the ratification of the United States Constitution. There is a historical plaque that commemorates where the tavern once stood.

The Dover mall is a fine idea for tax-free shopping, and one may enjoy this at more than a hundred retail businesses. Dover Air Force base is also close by, which houses a military museum that boasts a collection of memorabilia that includes decommissioned aircraft.

The beaches are just a short drive to the city’s east, and the charming and lively Baltimore and DC are as close as a weekend getaway. One might also enjoy a race at Dover Downs, whether harness, stock racing, or the NASCAR variety. Altogether, Dover is a great place to live, boasting several very nice neighborhoods and a selection of real estate options for the itinerant resident.

Delaware is known to foster one of the country’s most business-friendly environments, for political as well as economic reasons. Thus, many of the large companies have major operations in the state. The northern part of Delaware is home to a great many banking, biotech and information technology corporations. In Dover itself, government agencies share the burden for the local economic growth with such manufacturers as Playtex Apparel, Inc.

Newark: Newark is primarily a college town, home for a time to some seven thousand or so students during the academic year. As such it is designed with this class of people in mind, but that doesn’t make it a bad place to visit. Of particular interest is the main street district in downtown. Newark has a team of people devoted to the beautification of their city, and their efforts have been paying off.
