How do I Act During Speed Dating

If you are thinking of giving speed dating a try, there are a few things you should know before you embark on your first experience.

Before you go to the event, you must first decide what to wear. Remember that the name of the game is first impressions, and what you wear says a lot about who you are. Also keep in mind that what you wear can serve as a distraction from the conversation if you are not dressed appropriately. Appropriate dress should tell the others a little about your personality - are you trendy, classic, romantic, conservative? You do not want to show too much of any body part, as this can distract from the conversation you are trying to build. The same is true for a large, loud or obnoxious piece of clothing or accessory could be distracting from the conversation. Ask a friend or just take a look in the mirror. If something draws attention right away, you may want to consider wearing something else. After all, you want people to focus on you, not your clothing or even an exposed body part.

Once you arrive, it is important to stay confident. Others will be able to determine if you are confident or insecure right away. Sure, everyone is nervous when meeting someone new, but try to tame your nervous habits. It is also important to be confident enough to be yourself in this situation. That is the only way someone will be able to accurately determine if they want to further their conversation with you on another date. If you put up a front that is just not who you are, you are wasting your time and your partners.

And remember, speed dating is not a time for small talk and flirtation. It is a time to decide if you are compatible with another human being. So get down to it (without being too personal or intrusive!). And don't bring up past relationships or other awkward topics that can certainly be unattractive on any first date.
