The Mexican Riviera is a gorgeous stretch of coastline along the Pacific Ocean. It has been made famous due to the filming of several movies and television shows that have been shot there. Now, however, it has become famous to Americans all on its own. The Mexican Riviera includes ports such as Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Catalina. To date, the Mexican Riviera is fourth in the most popular cruise destination list and is rapidly gaining popularity. It is becoming known as another option to consider next to a Caribbean cruise. The landscape in the Mexican Riviera ranges from serene beaches to towering cliffs to jungle wilderness. And not all the fun is to be had on the ship. The Mexican Riviera ports of call offer a wide variety of activities to engage in and sights to see as well. As expected of a coastal city, Acapulco offers many water sports to enjoy in the Pacific Ocean. It also offers some wonderful shopping, including bargain shopping. However, Acapulco is most famous for its cliff diving. People, mostly men, take the plunge from a cliff that takes the breaths of the spectators watching. This is a tourist hot spot in Acapulco. Cabo San Lucas also offers many water sports and local shopping spots to choose from. But unique to this city is a rock formation called “El Arco” which marks the spot where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. For many, this is a must-see when stopping in Cabo San Lucas. Puerto Vallarta, also home to water sports and fabulous shopping, boasts a tropical landscape that is unlike any other. It does not take a long hike for tourists to step into another world in the lush tropical environment. Catalina, which is right off the southern coast of California, was made famous in the 1930’s and 1940’s by the celebrities that used to frequent the island. Tours are now given of the hot hangout spots of that time, as well as local shops and beautiful beaches.
