If you are planning a visit to Costa Rica and only have a few days to do some exploring, it is best to settle in one region and get as much out of that area as possible. This will require some deliberation – do you want to hike around a volcano? Would you prefer to relax on the beach? What about touring a rain forest? Luckily, there are some regions in this country that allow you to do all of the above.

To start your trip, plan to fly into the airport in San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica that is located in the middle of the country. From here, you can access the various parts of Costa Rica by rental car (although you should beware of the primitive road system), by taxi or even commuter aircraft. If you want to see more than one area of the country during your short stay, commuter plane may be your best option.
