Costa Rica isn’t necessarily a child-friendly destination, but it’s not a non-friendly destination either. It is not an ideal location for babies to visit, but if your older children are adventurous and inquisitive, they will probably really enjoy the zip-line canopy tours and guided hikes through the rainforests and waterfalls. It would be a good idea to base your trip (so your children don’t have to lug around luggage from place to place) at one of the more luxurious resorts in the Guanacaste region. These resorts offer kids programs as well as hotel-operated tours and hikes. The luxury hotels are often all-inclusive and are located on the beach, which gives your children the chance to play in the sand or explore the grounds in a safe environment. If you do plan on basing yourself in the Guanacaste area, plan to fly into the Liberian airport instead of San Jose.
