There are three major divisions or kinds of mice out there. The first is the original mechanical mice. They attached to the hard drive of your computer with a cord. Some of the variations of this one are the number of buttons on the mouse. Some, like the apple mouse, have one button allowing for a simpler look and feel. Others, like ones made by Logitech, have two buttons for ordinary use, a scroll wheel which allows to you scroll a document or an internet frame without moving the location of the mouse, and other buttons used to move back and forth through internet pages and programs. As you can see, even the most basic mice have tons of accessories that can be customized to your own comfort.
The second kind of mouse is actually called a trackball. This technology made its way in the 90’s, which basically just exposed the ball to the user. The mouse ball is placed on the top of the mouse and with one finger the user is able to move the cursor around the screen. This is quite different and may cause some growing pains when you start to use one, but some people swear by the trackball. The third kind of mouse is the optical or laser mice. Most of these mice have gone to cordless environment. The optical mouse uses LED to project how the mouse is moving, and the laser mouse uses lasers to see how it has been moved. The laser is more dependable but also more expensive. The cordless variety allow for you to move the mouse all over the table in front of the screen, and not use a mouse pad. The cordless variety does require an outside power source with the mouse either using a rechargeable lithium battery or just AA batteries.
