There are people whose main reason for buying an Internet appliance is to compliment what their present equipment won’t do. You will have to look at what you have and what equipment you have won’t do and see if adding an Internet appliance will solve that problem, or add more functionality you need.

By hooking up many machines for Internet access and save on phone charges. That is plenty of savings right there considering what the phone company charges.
·        What are the costs of owning one? Here is one important question to look into. You have to look at your budget to determine if you can afford one. Usually, Internet appliances can run you between $1000 and $2000 dollars. It is according to what you want and what you get. However since they are simple to set up and operate, they are cheap in comparison to desktop computers. And they don’t need to be upgraded.
·        Will the Internet appliance change my present software? Here is another area to be concerned. The last thing you need to do is buy an appliance that changes what you already have. According to Internet appliance manufacturers, Internet appliances are suppose to supplement any equipment not change it. The only thing you will need to do is configure it with your web browser.
·        Can I replace the Internet appliance with my present operating system? If you are a network administrator and run Windows NT or UNIX servers, and use these servers for file sharing and web pages only, then having Internet appliances may be a blessing for you. Supposedly, according to the people who make them, Internet appliances are supposed to be great substitutes for your system.
·        Do all operating systems support the Internet appliance? Here is another area of concern. You cannot just go out there to buy one without knowing this. Again, according to makers of Internet appliances, they do support all operating systems. You’ll have to do a lot of research to be sure.
