At some point, just about all of us have had some kind of insect bite. Whether you came back from camping with ankles full of chiggers, or you woke up with a spider bite on your back, insect bites can be extremely irritating, and in some cases, life threatening. Most reactions to insect bites are mild, but a small percentage of people develop severe reactions to insect venom. The most troublesome insect bites usually come from venomous insects, such as bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, and fire ants. Bites from non-venomous insects, such as mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies, and spiders usually result in a milder reaction.
