Homes in Denver vary greatly in terms of size, style, and price. If you are like most families, you have a pretty good idea of what you qualify for in terms of house purchasing, but if you don’t, it is best to find out before you begin looking at houses. Knowing how much house you can afford will to a large degree determine which area of Denver you can begin your housing hunt.

• $100,000 and under: There are housing options available for under $100,000, even going as low as $19,900! Housing in this price range is most likely to be a condo or a very small house, with two bedrooms or less and an average of 700 square feet.

• $100,000 to $200,000: The lower end of this price range is still likely to find you outfitted in a condo. As the price rises toward the upper end, the options turn more toward single family detached structures with an average of 1,600 square feet and 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

• $200,000 to $400,000: Housing in this range will usually be found in a single family structure, but can also be found in the nicer condos. The square footage ranges from 1,400 to 4,000 and usually have between 3 and 6 bedrooms and 2 and 4 bathrooms.

• $400,000 to $800,000: Houses and condos in this price range are similar in size and structure to the previous one, though some of the homes are bigger than 5,000 square feet. The difference is typically in the location, as is the case in most areas.

• $800,000 to $2 million: The condos and single family structures become even nicer in this price range with square footage ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 and higher and having anywhere from 4 to 8 bedrooms with as many bathrooms.

• $2 million and above: A house of this price range will buy you between 5,000and 11,000 square feet of space in the nicest areas Denver has to offer. Homes of this size have 5 to 8 bedrooms and up to 9 bathrooms.
