Study Skill #4 - Prepare the Proper Place

One study skill that few people realize is so important is locating the right place to study. Places where there will be interruptions or where you will be tempted to fall asleep are never the most conducive to learning. In order to make the most of the time you devote to studying, try to find a place that is comfortable and available yet without many distractions.

The best place to study is available to you whenever you need it; if you like to study in the library, make sure that your study schedule mimics the library’s schedule. The study place should also be free from interruptions. Turn the phone off; lock the door; do whatever you need to do to maintain your concentration. Keep your study place free from distractions such as the TV, games, etc. If you really like to have white noise in the background, try playing music very softly – barely loud enough to hear. Also make sure that the study place has comfortable seating, lighting, and temperature. Keep plenty of study materials in your study place so that you will not have to leave to go get the things you need, and make sure that it has a large enough table or desk to spread out everything you need. Basically, try to keep the time that you spend in your study place focused on studying not thinking about what could be better.
