The freshman 15 refers to the weight college student’s gain during their freshman year. Although dubbed the freshman 15 for some the weight gain is not quite as big although it is still troublesome. Recent studies done at Cornell University found that college students gain on average of 4 pounds during their first 12 weeks of school. That doesn’t sound like a lot of weight gain and for some if that is all they gain it isn’t. But 4 pounds in 3 months means a possible 4 more before spring even starts. That still leaves a good 2 months left before finals and the possibility of even more weight gained. Even a weight gain of 4 pounds in 12 weeks is almost 11 times higher than the average weight gain should be of a normal 17 to 18 year old should be. There are several factors that go into someone gaining the freshman 15. There are also a variety of things you can do to avoid getting caught in bad habits that lead you down that road.
