Thankfully, you don’t have to choose your major as you would play “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” – eyes closed, hoping it’s the right direction. Aside from your own passion and desires, there are many resources available to you that can help you decide what major would be best for you. Here are a few:

• The college catalog. This will tell you everything from the requirements for that major’s graduation to the specific classes you’ll get to take.
• Professors. Talk with the professors in the field you’re looking into, and see what they have to say about the career opportunities for those with that particular degree.
• Your advisor. That’s what they’re there for – to advise you. And even if they haven’t known you very long, they’ve probably met hundreds of other students asking the same questions as you.
• Upperclassmen. Talk to students who have already gone through most of the major, and see what information they can give you about the classes and the opportunities.
• Alumni. Look up those who graduated with your major; where are they now? Ask them for information about careers.
• Your career center. Most colleges have a career center with a wealth of information that can help you with possible internships in this major, places to get a job later, and much, much more.
