“What major should I choose?” This question, asked by students everywhere, has all kinds of other questions wrapped up in it like, “What do I want to do with the rest of my life?” While choosing a major is very important, it is not something you need to excessively stress over. With careful consideration of yourself, your abilities, and the possibilities, you can make a good decision in the timeframe that you have.

There are many resources that are available to help you choose your major, from your advisor to alumni who have already completed the degree program that you’re considering. Since most schools don’t require a declaration of major until the junior year, you probably have time to “do your homework” on possible majors and career programs. If the program that you are considering requires that you start right away, you might want to go ahead and sign up, take a few classes, and then change your program if you find that you would rather do something else (which most schools allow you to do). While choosing a major is very important, it is something that should be approached with excitement rather than dread.
