Choosing a college or university can be a real test of someone’s self-awareness, because it is important to take an honest look at yourself when you’re trying to find the right school for you. Ask yourself questions like these to decide if a particular institution will fit you and your aspirations:
• What are my strongest skills academically? Will I be challenged in these areas?
• What areas of study am I considering, and are they offered?
• Do I want to live in a city, or is a small-town feel ok?
• Is living near home while at college a good option for me?
• What is my desire for the size of the school? Will I feel lost in a big university?
• Do I want athletic opportunities that are intercollegiate? Do they intramural sports that I could get involved in?
• Are there things I can get involved in, whether it’s student government or the math club?
• Am I conservative or liberal, introverted or extroverted? Are there other people there somewhat like me?
