In addition to all of the other tips given here regarding shopping around online using the ISBN and buying in advance, there a couple of other tips that may help you save money when it’s time for the you to buy textbooks.

• Don’t shop around too much. While it can be very cost-effective for you to check several difference sources in order to compare costs, there are endless web sites with used textbooks for sale. If you try to search all of them, saving only a few pennies here and there, your time will not be worth the money that you save.
• Look at international editions. They will take longer to arrive, and the paper feels different; but other than that, these copies are very affordable options. Just make sure that you have allotted enough time for the shipping process so that you will have your books when you need them.
• Keep them in good condition to sell them later. If you take care of your textbooks from last semester, you can either sell them to your school bookstore (if they’ll accept them), to another student or online. Then, you can take the cash that you received from the sale and put it towards your new books.
