Learning to find balance is a crucial skill for life, and college seems to be the time when most people really begin to struggle with it. The tendency is to prioritize with a “1” for academics and only a “4” for social life or another hierarchy. Unfortunately, this rating system doesn’t provide for the balance that every person needs between their academic well-being, social well-being, emotional well-being, and physical well-being.

Balance in college is about finding an appropriate medium between studying and resting, between experiencing new emotions and relieving stress, between enjoying friendships and learning to say no, and between spending time on-the-go and sleeping and eating correctly. Don’t slack off in classes; you’re paying a lot of money for that education! But also don’t forget to relax, to exercise, to foster your sense of purpose, and to give time to the other things of importance in your life and your holistic development.
