Coin Wrappers

Coin wrappers, which are also called rolls, are paper wrappers that hold sets of identical coins. When you purchase a roll of coins from the bank, it usually comes in a coin wrapper. You can purchase wrappers of many different sizes, based on the type and amount of coins you want to wrap.

You can purchase wrappers in sets of hundreds or thousands, but some banks also give them away. Cartridge coin wrappers are pre-formed while flat wrappers are cheaper and easier to store, but more difficult to use. Many banks and businesses have abandoned coin wrappers altogether and use coin tubes, which are easier to use, but more expensive than wrappers.

Banks use coin wrappers every day, and businesses that handle cash regularly keep sets of coins in wrappers as well. The novice coin collector will not use coin wrappers, but if you have a large collection with sets of identical coins, you might want to purchase a few coin wrappers.

Some coin sorters allow you to insert wrappers so that after sorting the coins, the machine wraps your coin stacks for you. Wrapping coins yourself on the other hand, can be a more difficult matter because you have to hold a stack of coins in one hand while sliding them into a wrapper with your other hand. You’re probably more likely, however, to purchase coins that are already in a wrapper.
