Coin Tubes

Coin tubes are the convenient alternatives to coin wrappers, and both items hold rolls of coins. A roll of coins is essentially a stack of identical coins; a coin tube holds that stack in a sealed plastic container while a coin wrapper is a paper product.

Unlike some coin wrappers, which you have to wrap around the coins yourself, coin tubes are preformed and easy to use. They are more expensive than are coin wrappers, but their convenience makes them popular with many businesses.

Many coin tubes are clear and have a screw or pop cap. Some companies, however, sell tubes of different colors so that you can easily differentiate between types of coins. In addition, some coin sorters will sort coins directly into coin tubes to make your coin storage even easier.

Coin tubes differ based on the type and amount of coins they will hold; you can avoid confusion by not mixing different types of coins in the same tubes. The size of a coin tube also impacts its price, but it is common to find standard tubes for well under one dollar.

Like coin wrappers, coin tubes are preferred by businesses and banks, while coin collectors will rarely have much use for them. As a coin collector, unless you have large quantities of identical coins that you don’t want to display, you won’t need coin tubes.
