While coin sorters, coin wrappers, and coin banks are often used by businesses and financial institutions rather than coin collectors, coin holders are the favored article of coin collectors. Coin holders are small panels that are clear on at least one side so that collectors can display their favorite coins.

There are many different types of coin holders on the market, including the following:

·        2x2: 2x2s are simply a piece of cardboard with a thin plastic cover.
·        Flips: Flips are made entirely of plastic so that you can see both sides of the coin. Be careful, though; regular flips are only suitable for short-term use.
·        Air-Tites: Air-tite coin holders secure the coins with a snug fit, and the front of the holder snaps onto the rear to seal the holder shut. Whitman holders also snap together, but they do not offer the snug fit of air-tites.
·        CoinEdge: CoinEdge holders allow you to display the much-ignored third side of the coin, the edge.
·        Intercept Shield: This expensive coin holder neutralizes toning and tarnishing effects on the coins.
·        Slabs: Slabs are sealed hard plastic holders; they are the best and most expensive coin holders on the market.

Basic 2x2 coin holders can cost only a few cents but only display the front of one coin. Other coin holders can display both sides of your coin(s) at once and offer incomparable protection. Simply decide how to best display your favorite coins and protect your most valuable coins.

Whichever coin holder you use, the goal is to protect your coin by keeping out any liquids or chemicals that might damage the coin. Coin holders are very effective, but still use common sense and keep your coin holders away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and water.
