This is not black tea, though the Chinese do call black tea "red tea."
Also called rooibos ("roy-boos") or red bush, red tea is distinctly African, growing only in the Cedarberg Mountains. Because it uses another plant, it can be argued to be an herbal tea rather than a true "tea." Though fully oxidized, it is caffeine-free. (Its source is yellow-green originally and turns red when fully oxidized.) It also contains vitamins and minerals.
Red tea has anti-spasmodic properties and is high in antioxidants. It is reported to assist with allergies, colic, stomach cramps, and some skin conditions such as acne.
