Another common tea, green tea is well-known for its antioxidants, which are known to have health benefits. Recent studies have associated green tea with some anti-carcinogens. Other possible benefits include fertility benefits, weight loss, and lowered risk of heart disease.

The leaves are dried quickly after plucking to prevent oxidation, often being steamed to halt the natural oxidation enzymes. To avoid cooking the leaves, it should be brewed in water that is well below boiling in temperature; to do otherwise damages the flavors and the health benefits.

Like black and chai teas, green tea always has caffeine. Decaffeination reduces but does not remove the caffeine in the beverage. Green tea has little caffeine, having about a tenth of the caffeine of the average cup of coffee.
