Joking aside, coffee mugs have more uses than we want to think about. It almost feels as though coffee mugs are miniature billboards that we drink our morning hot beverages out of. It is true, that since the coffee culture has exploded that coffee mugs have become their own culture as well.
Not only are coffee mugs a favorite source of marketing, with millions of people every morning showing off their favorite sports teams, websites, or television shows, but coffee mugs now come in all different shapes and sizes. It is possible to get coffee mugs that stick to our dashboards or if you are worried about your beverage getting cold then you can plug your coffee mug into your cigarette lighter.
The days of throwing a coffee mug may still exist in a college course but most likely you are drinking out of a mug that was cast in a mold and mass-produced. The fact that coffee mugs are used primarily for drinking coffee is superfluous. It seems their main purpose is advertising. This is okay because we feel some kind of security when we drink out of our Starbucks or Dallas Cowboy mug. But perhaps drinking out of a coffee mug is not the main objective of the item at all. Maybe the reason our cupboards are overwrought with mugs is because their true uses are being denied. A coffee mug can be used to separate change, hold paper clips or even pencils. The beauty of the coffee mug is its utility.
Chances are you have and love a few coffee mugs. Even if you don’t drink coffee, you more than likely have some on hand for those relatives or friends who can’t be without coffee when the come for a visit. Unlike the various forms of insurance, which are necessary evils, coffee mugs are a necessary pleasantry. So stick your mugs out in plain view or wrap both hands around your favorite stained mug, because no matter what the function or need, a coffee mug will always bring you comfort, whether in beverage or metaphysical form.
