If you are in the market for a coffee maker there are a few different types to choose from. Your choice on which type of coffee maker is right for you will depend on your coffee drinking style. The follow are the basic types of coffee makers:
· Percolator: Percolating coffee makers have mostly been replaced by newer versions that claim to make a better cup of coffee. That being said however, there are those who are deeply attached to their percolating coffee makers. Percolators work by boiling water which has been said to damage the flavors of the coffee beans.
· French Press: A French press consists of a “coffee press” that has a stainless mesh screen and acts as a plunger to filter the coffee. Coffee grounds are measured and placed into the coffee pot and then hot, not boiling water is poured over the grounds. At that time the coffee press is placed into the coffee pot but not pressed until the coffee has had a chance to sit for 4 minutes. After that time the press is simply pushed up and down to filter the coffee. The French press makes a very full flavored cup of coffee that many coffee drinkers prefer. One disadvantage however is that since there is not a hot plate with this type of coffee maker the coffee does not stay hot very long. This does not make it a good choice for those who like to enjoy their coffee throughout the day.
· Automatic Drip: This type of coffee maker is the most popular type made. In automatic drip coffee makers coffee grounds are measured and poured into a filter. Most automatic drip coffee makers call for cold water to then be poured into a reservoir. At that time the water is heated and released on the grounds that are then filtered into the coffee pot.
