According to some Italian researchers, coffee has been found to reduce the risk of liver disease among heavy alcohol drinkers.

Akessandra Tavani of Milan's Mario Negri Cancer Research Center has reported that alcoholics who drink at least four cups of coffee a day are five times less likely to get cirrhosis or liver tumors than heavy drinkers who eschew coffee.

Alcoholics who drink plenty of coffee are also three times less likely to die of liver disease.

Scientists are still uncertain, but suspect that the alcohol countering effects of coffee may be caused by the many antioxidants it contains.
