However, Mayor Nick Lalich makes no apologies for buying an espresso coffee machine with $1550 of ratepayers' money.

Mr Lalich yesterday said the machine, bought with a council credit card last August, was used by himself and general manager Alan Young to offer guests "professional-style coffee" during meetings.

"I host delegates from overseas and interstate about twice a week, and I meet with constituents over local matters almost daily, and it's nice to offer them a cappuccino," Mr Lalich said.

Cabramatta Chamber of Commerce secretary and local resident Ken Chapman said the machine was a blatant waste of public money.

Sheesh. And we always hear such great things about Australia. Here in the American South, we're renowned for crucifying crooked politicians who buy cars and latte-machines with our tax money. Be warned, matey.
