Having the right tools and equipment is the most important starting point when planning a climb. What specifically do you need? The following gear is required for ice climbing:

• Helmet
• Harness
• Ice tools (Axes/hammers; Wrist Loops/Leashes)
• Crampons (framework of spikes that are connected to boots to provide traction and are specialized to support front pointing)
• Technical climbing gear such as ice screws (screw used to protect a climb over steep ice) ropes, and rock climbing gear.
• Several pairs of gloves
• Warm clothes
