Shanghai highly values the performing arts. There are numerous venues, including the state of the art Shanghai Grand Theatre. The Shanghai Concert Hall is the primary venue for classical concerts, while the Dramatic Arts Theatre is known for serious theatrical productions.

Shanghai is home to the National Ballet of China and the Shanghai Ballet Company. The Shanghai Acrobatics Troupe performs mind-bending routines at the Shanghai Circus world that will boggle your mind.

Shanghai is a rising star in terms of cinema as well. The relatively low productions costs, outstanding settings, and supportive local government have made the city highly attractive for western filmmakers. 2006’s Mission Impossible III was partially shot in Shanghai, and films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and the Empire of the Sun have roots in Shanghai as well.
