Day Six

Every visitor to Beijing should travel the fifty or so miles north to take a walk on the Great Wall of China. The Wall was constructed from the 3rd century B.C. all the way through the 17th century, primarily to ward off invading Mongolians. The Badaling section is the most popular for visitors, and definitely the most tourist-friendly. In recent years attractions have been added including a museum, a theater, several restaurants, and a cable-car ride.

Those looking for less populated portions of the wall should avoid Badaling; or you can begin there and immediately begin hiking the wall to escape from the crowds.
