Xi Cheng is located just west of the Forbidden City and is home to the city’s government compound sometimes referred to as the “new Forbidden City” (it is off-limits to tourists).

Xuan Wu is southwest of the Forbidden City and is where the Chinese go to shop. These are not the tourist friendly markets of Wang Fu Jing, meaning you will find better prices, but a grittier environment.
