The Dong Cheng district is located in the eastern half of the city center, from the Forbidden City out toward the Second Ring Road. The Forbidden City is technically a part of the Dong Cheng region, though its size and scope warrant its separate listing. Many of the other major tourist sites can be found in the Dong Cheng district, including Tiananmen Square, Mao’s Mausoleum, the Lama Temple, and the Confucius Temple.

The region is naturally home to numerous hotels, given the tourist sites that abound. There are also several great shopping areas including Wang Fu Jing and Dong Dan. Sung Dong An Plaza is the city’s colossal shopping mall.
