The climate of Santiago is typically a mild and warm Mediterranean climate. The summers (November to March) are comparatively hot and dry, with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees Celsius on the hottest days. The winters in Santiago (June to August) are typically more humid, and normally do not reach above 15 degrees Celsius. Santiago’s annual average temperature is 14.5 C° (21 C° in the summer and 8.4 C° in the winter). The annual average rainfall in Chile is 346 mm.

The winter months of Santiago evidence high levels of air pollution and smog within the Central Valley. The government has attempted to regulate the pollution by providing incentives for industrial companies to transfer out of the valley, however, their efforts have noticed minimal results. The high concentration of pollution is due to the thermal inversion of the climate.
