Day Seven: Punta Arenas - Magdalena Island

Spend your last day back in Punta Arenas. Travel to Magdalena Island, which is home to tens of thousands of Magellanic Penguins, sea lions, and other birds, and is found only 25 nautical miles north of the city. Together with its neighboring islet Marta, Magdalena Island composes The Penguins Natural Monument. It is estimated that over 50,000 penguin pairs reside on these two islands. If you arrive in the summer, you will see thousands of penguins make haste to conclude their reproductive cycle. Walk along the island and visit a historic lighthouse.

This is a great way to end your vacation as the boat trip to Magdalena Island affords divergent views to the west and east of the Strait. To the west, tourists can observe the Tres Puentes area and the village of Río Seco. To the east, visitors will take in the flat and lengthy coast of Tierra del Fuego.
